A great origin story can inspire more than just the person living it. Each story always starts off with an individual who hasn’t realized their potential yet. Maybe they were selfish or immature. Then a critical moment happens that challenges this person to become more. A symbol that represents more than just themselves, but influences the people around them. Peter Parker becomes Spiderman, Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel, Calli Kennedy creates The Living Lenz. Not Familiar with that last one? You will be soon because it’s my origin story. Spoiler Alert, there are no radioactive spiders or Kryptonite involve. Just a woman with a camera.
It all started 31 years ago when I was born… ok, I’ll skip ahead to the more relevant parts. Several years ago, I was a young woman trying to figure out life. I lost most of my friends while trying to make a bad relationship work, my career was going in a direction I wasn’t passionate about, and my self-esteem was an all-time low. Then reality slapped me in the face when a brave woman came forward with a life changing confession that made me rethink who I want to be. It wasn’t always easy to see the light in those dark times.
I decided to take a trip with friends to Machu Picchu, in other words, a “quest to find myself”. One of my friends had a camera and I became hooked. When I started to learn photography, I found my community expanded to individuals I never would have met before. From this inspiration, The Living Lenz was born. It became a way to tell a small part of another person’s story and remind them just how unique they are. Did photography alone help me? No. With the help of others and my faith in God, I have become a more supportive person who tries to think of others first, have come to appreciate who I am as an individual, and met a wonderful man who is now my husband.
My story is far from over and now you are a part of it too! I hope we inspire each other through the adventures to come.

[…] Photographers are just like you! We have families, schedule challenges, juggling priorities and most have another job. Let’s talk about that last point. There are a wide variety of professional photographers. Some have the amazing opportunity to focus on their craft full time, several require another job to help supplement income, and others (like myself!) choose to be a part time photographer with a full time job. I am often asked if I could be a full time photographer, would I choose to? My answer is simple; No. I am deeply passionate about photography and the people I come to know through it. However, my many passions drive my choice to grow in several areas in my life besides The Living Lenz. […]
