Meaning Behind the Name

How did The Living Lenz get its name? I wanted the name of the business to reflect the most important part of why I do this; You! My loving couples and laughing families are the reason why I started. However, that doesn’t explain how I came up with the name.

I lived in the Old Town Alexandria VA and had been playing with cameras for months. Taking classes and learning techniques, but feared taking the next step. I feared trying to be an ‘actual’ photographer and failing. That’s when I got a phone call from my mom. (Strange how mom’s always have perfect timing.) She invited me on a girls trip to Tampa with one of my old childhood friends. When I say childhood, I mean matching outfits and everything. Don’t worry, we don’t do that anymore!

My friend, Tynae, has an amazing talent with fashion and requested if I would take pictures for her Instagram page. During this time together, she encouraged me to take the leap. After all, It’s better to try and fail than to never try right? Yup, that quote did not help very much in the moment for me either. Although, it couldn’t be more true.

First step, pick a business name. Should I name it after myself, Calli Kennedy Photography? Don’t get me wrong, I want you all to know my name and not call me “the photographer” at a wedding or photography session. It’s just not what I wanted the name to represent. While sitting in bumper to bumper traffic coming back from Saint Petes, we were brainstorming.  My mom was driving, Tynae was on her phone checking if names were already taken, and then there was me… falling down the metaphorical rabbit hole of endless potential names. After several painfully slow miles, The Living Lenz came to be.  It was perfect! Capturing the living love of families and amazing individuals that surround us every day. The name represents a moment frozen in time that inspires us to keep going and reminds us what life is about. The Living Lenz is more than just me, but a community made up of us.
