What is the history of Driftwood Beach on Jekyll Island?

Driftwood Beach and its familiar driftwood formed as a result of decades of erosion. The ocean slowly crept into the forest. Destroying any chance of these trees living long. What was once a gorgeous forest is now a beach shore lined with expired tree trunks creating a beautiful composition ideal for the camera! The contrast imagery between the dead historic oak trees and the lively families enjoying the scenery is eye catching. No wonder this location is popular for family sessions!

When is the best time for photography session on Driftwood Beach?

Depending on your photographer, the time frame is flexible! As an experienced family photographer, the only time I would not recommend a photo shoot is between 11 AM to 3:30 PM. Depending on the time of the year, most of the other times can still result in stunning images. If you can stand a little bit of cold-weather, or a little bit of heat, then this location is perfect all year long!

With that being said, golden hour is the best time for any photography session! However, not every family can make that time. Let’s be real, families with toddlers, this is prime time witching hour. Why would you want to book a session when you know your toddler isn’t gonna do well? Great news! There are other options. The below session is at 10 AM and still captured beautiful images. Book with an experience photographer that knows your desired location well and the time that you decide to book has a little bit more flexibility.
